DOG TREAT RECIPE: OH-SO SWEET SQUASH SOUP GOOP | HUMAN FOOD FOR DOGS

Easy dog treat recipeSoup may not sound like something that you would treat your dog with — after all you can’t exactly slosh soup around in your pocket. But, believe it or not, soup is a fantastic way to spoil your furry minion at home, especially if you make it a little goopy!

This dog-friendly Sweet Squash Soup Goop recipe is a wonderful way to cozy up your pup’s kibble at dinner time! It takes no time at all to make, adds interest to your dog’s meal and gives them a healthy boost of much needed vitamins and dietary fibre! Oh, and did we mention that this easy dog treat recipe has only THREE ingredients? And go!

INGREDIENTS
– 2 cups of no sodium vegetable or chicken broth
– 1 or 2 organic sweet potatoes
– 1 butternut squash

DIRECTIONS
1) Slice and dice the sweet potatoes and squash into bite sized pieces.
2) Place in large pot and cover with broth.
3) Bring to a gentle simmer for 30-40 minutes or until potato chunks are soft.
4) Allow to cool and blend using an electric hand mixer or blender (who knew!)
5) Store in glass jars or plastic containers once cooled.

When dinner time comes around, simply ladle over your dog’s kibble and watch the drool flow! this is especially ideal for older dogs who may have sensitive teeth and need their kibble softened with a bit of water before chowing down. DOG TREAT RECIPE: CHEESY CHICKPEA CHIPS

Easy dog treat recipesYour pups will say cheese for these Cheesy Chickpea Chips — an easy dog treat recipe that makes crispy little chips of goodness for your hungry hound!  They take 10 minutes to make and 20 minutes to bake! Here’s how:

INGREDIENTS
– 1 cup of drained, rinsed tinned chickpeas
(you can also use dried as long as soak them before hand)
– 1 tbsp peanut butter
– 1/4 cup of rice or almond flour
– 1 tbsp coconut oil
– 1/8 cup of shredded cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS
1. Use a fork to crush and squash the chickpeas.
2. Mix in the remaining ingredients. The batter will be a bit chunky so it may be easiest to ‘knead’ the mixture using your hands until firm.
3. Use a rolling pin to roll out the mixture on a flat surface.
4. Grab your trusty cookie cutter (something ‘bite-sized’ or approximately the size of a bottle cap) and cut out as many cookies as you’d like.
5. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.*
6. Allow to cool and fill up the dog treat tin for future spoiling!

*Feel free to melt a bit of extra cheese on top of these crispy biscuits if you feel like making them extra special!

A yummy treat for any dog you meet! These are becoming a must-have staple in Pawsh Studio and our furry visitors go bonkers for them!

DOG TREAT RECIPE: KALE SQUASH SURPRISE

Pawsh-dog-treat-recipe-squash-surpriseWith Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to start brainstorming some frightful and delightful ways to have a spooky good time! So we’ve cooked up a delectable dog treat recipe that looks very green and ghoulish!

What You Need:
— a muffin tin and muffin cups
— 1 cup diced butternut squash
— 1/2 cup of finely chopped kale
— 1 egg
— 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (optional — this is to help bind the mixture so it bakes more easily)

Directions:
1. In a sturdy blender mix all of the ingredients until you achieve a thick consistency.
2. Pour mixture evenly into muffin tin. (I personally like using muffin tins when baking for Rory because it cuts down on mess and cleanup).
3. If you’re leaving these out at a party, top each muffin treat with a small piece of bright orange squash.
4. Bake in over at 350 for 15 minutes.
5. Remove, allow to cool and serve! TIP: To make these tasty morsels last longer, cut into small pieces before treating your pup!
Pawsh-dog-treat-recipe-squash-surprise-2The nutritional breakdown:
KALE is packed with natural anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories which helps to alleviate joint pain and stress from daily, repetitive movements. It is also loaded with beneficial vitamins that are sometimes missing from a strictly kibble-based diet, such as vitamin C, K, beta carotene and magnesium. Plus it is low-cal!

SQUASH is colourful, smells wonderful while it is baking and is bursting with provitamin A which helps keep your furry friends’ diet balanced.

EGGS are an excellent source of protein and help to keep a dog’s dog luscious and healthy. They also provide essential minerals.

In conclusion:
These treats are a healthy snack for dogs of all shapes and sizes. Plus their green nature is perfect for this ‘spooktacular’ time of year. Serve at your dog-friendly Halloween party and call them something like ‘Brain Cakes’ or ‘Booger Bites’ to really get into the festive mindset.
