HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: 5 UNIQUE HOLIDAY GIFTS FOR DOG LOVERS

Pawsh-Magazine-dog-lovers-gift-guideWant to surprise the dog lover on your holiday shopping list with a gift that they would never have thought of? Then we’ve got you covered! For that extra special someone who dotes upon their dog, this is the gift guide for you! Presenting 5 unique holiday gifts for dog lovers…

1)  A dog walking service
Ask pet parents what their least favourite furry related chore is and I bet they would say taking their dog for walk in the chilly winter (at least, in our Canadian winters). So why not treat your friend to a month’s worth of dog walking services? It needn’t be every day — maybe even just or twice a week for a month — to make a big difference. It would also help get a dog out and about during the old 9-5 routine when they would otherwise be at home.

COST: Here in Toronto, dog walkers average at about $18/hour. I love Unleashed in the City personally — they pick your dog up for a walk, take them all around the neighbourhood with a little pack so your dog can make friends, stop off at the dog park for some running around and then bring them right back home again.

2)  A professional photo session
I’m not just saying this because Pawsh Studio opened this year (did you see the Studio page is all finished now?) Professional photographs of a pet are truly priceless, especially photographs that capture your little one’s genuine personality. A professional photo session is something a lot of pet parents save up for, so beat them to it and treat them to their very own photoshoot! They will love this gift forever!

COST: Cost varies from photographer to photographer. For example, Pawsh Studio has packages that start as low as $150 and is more than happy to provide chic printed gift certificates so you have something to hang on the Christmas tree.

But of course, choosing a pet photographer is a very personal decision, so here are just a handful of other pet photographers whom I love and admire if you are shopping around for some options in your area: Elizabeth&Jane, Posh Pets Photography, Tonya Pet Photography and Dana Cubbage Photography.

Pawsh-Magazine-dog-lovers-gift-guide-23)  A Paw Couture monthly gift subscription
What dog doesn’t love getting new toys? Well, with a Paw Couture subscription you can treat a pup to a box full of new toys and goodies each month! What I love about this subscription program is that it is completely customizable. You fill out a form about your dog’s play habits (do they like tough toys? Plush toys? Are they huge chewers? Are balls their favourite thing ever? etc), select your desired subscription or teaser — that’s right, you can test it out before committing — and voila! It’s like Santa Paws visits all year round!

COST: Teaser packages start at just $34.99 and subscriptions start at just $100! Plus, you can talk directly to the Paw Couture team to develop a custom package if you wish. Take a peek here for a taste of some of the goodies they offer!

4)  A dog-friendly class
I don’t know about you, but personally, sometimes the greatest gifts are those that are experience related instead of a trinket. The same can be true for our canine chums! Why not treat your dog-loving friend and their pooch to a sample agility, training or dock-diving class? You can make a date of it together and collect fun stories along the way. Plus, it’s a chance for your dog to try something new!

5)  An animal charity donation
For the dog-lover who has everything, give a gift that gives back by making a donation to their favourite animal rescue or charity. Not sure which rescue or group to donate to? Visit our Rescues page — nothing but amazing organizations there who do so much to help pets in need.

Whatever you end up gifting this year, may your holidays be fluffy and bright! xo

TORONTO DOG PHOTOGRAPHER: CATTLE DOG IN THE FIELD

Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-pet-photographer-3Today I would like to share with you a fantastic fall pet photo session featuring the sweetest little cattle dog you’ve ever seen! Now that Pawsh Studio is up and running, I hope to share more of my pet photo sessions with you on a regular basis, because who doesn’t enjoy seeing a few furry faces from time to time?

So today, without further adieu, I would like to present Miss Triggs! As much as I love working in the studio, it was very refreshing to be out in the great outdoors watching Triggs tear around and watch cows. Just look at this face!
Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-pet-photographer-4 Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-pet-photographer-5 Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-pet-photographer-6She was inquisitive about everything and had no problem jumping up on rocks and even tree trunks when her human asked. You can absolutely see the love and respect this dog has for people in her beautiful honey brown eyes.
Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-pet-photographer-7 Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-Pet-Photographer-8 Pawsh-studio-Toronto-pet-photographer-9 Jumping was also a favourite trick of Miss Trigg’s and she delighted in bounding around whenever she could. What else can I say? This was an ultra joyful session!

Don’t worry if your dog won’t sit nicely for the camera — that’s not their job. Their job is to be themselves… it’s MY job to run around with the camera and capture moments that are genuine and raw in a pretty fashion.
Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-Pet-Photographer-15 Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-Pet-Photographer-16 Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-Pet-Photographer-17In 2014 I would love to try and come out to different towns and cities — YOUR town or city —  for a day or two at a time and devote that visit to doing nothing by pet photo sessions! What do you think? Good idea? Terrible idea?
Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-pet-photographer-Trigger-1 Pawsh-Studio-Toronto-pet-photographer-Trigger-2Nothing can compare to having photographs of your beloved furball. Is it an investment? Yes, absolutely — I’ll be completely honest. But is it a worthwhile investment? As a crazy-dog person, I definitely think so. Pet photographs are something you can treasure for years and years to come.

PAWSH STUDIO: HOLIDAY PAWSH PRINTS

Pawsh-Studio-Holiday-Dog-Prints-1It snowed here in Toronto yesterday. I definitely saw a few fat white flakes sprinkle down from the cool grey sky and onto our little part of the world. So I thought what better time to unveil the new holiday prints for the Pawsh Print Shop.

Each print has been crafted to (hopefully) capture the joy and merriness of the holiday season. Each is available as an 8×10 fine art cold press matte print — they look like paintings once processed — and 20% from each print sale will be donated to a local Toronto animal shelter on Christmas Day (or Christmas Eve if they aren’t open on the actual holiday).

Treat your favourite vet to a festive print, dress up your cosy hallway with a cheeky furry face or add a bit of cheer to your desk over the holiday season. Your purchase of a print will help animals in need and help to spread the joy.

Thank you to all the dog models and their wonderful pet parents for coming out to these special photo sessions. To view all four holiday Pawsh prints, please visit our Print Shop!

IT’S HERE! PAWSH NO.8!

Pawsh-8-web-1 Happy Monday ladies and gentlemen! At last the new issue of Pawsh is here — all 132 pages of it! Jam packed with all sorts of delightful goodies for you and your furkids to enjoy this fall and winter!

Whenever the end of a year draws near, it is only natural to become reflective about our lives. Did we accomplish all that we set out to achieve? Did we grow as an individual? Did we exceed our personal expectations?

While personal development is an admirable quest, I find myself preoccupied this year with one presiding question — “Was I happy?” Too often do we confuse the concept of success with money and title instead of focusing upon a simpler, more attainable definition – happiness.
Pawsh-No-8-webThis question is the inspiration behind our new edition of Pawsh No. 8 “The Simple Things.” It’s about relishing each and every moment for what it is, creating lasting memories, slowing down, focusing and above all connecting with those things and people we love most in the world.

Everything in this issue has been designed to reflect this profound ‘less is best’ attitude. The photography is clean, chic and minimalist in nature; the topics are each linked to improving one’s quality of life for you and your dog; and the overall artistry – we hope – is meant to inspire a calmer, more collected way of life.

Special thanks to everyone who contributed to this edition of Pawsh! And thank you again to all of you for being so patient while I dealt with some unexpected news that delayed this issue. I hope you and your loved ones enjoy curling up with it this season.
