It is common knowledge that dog racing can be harmful to the hounds who participate, but did you know that…
Most dogs who are considered retired from the sport are only 1 or 1.5 years old.
The word retired is in this case very deceiving, because it brings to mind senior-aged dogs. But in actual fact the greyhounds who are either put up for adoption because they can no longer compete (or worse, who are destroyed) are only babies — young dogs with their entire lives ahead of them.

If you have a greyhound, please feel free to post their photo and introduce them on the Pawsh Facebook page! I would love to see them!

We have had a greyhound/ yellow lab for 5+ yrs. They said she was husky and lab. When I saw her run
for the 1st time, I knew that was no husky. I knew nothing about greyhounds, but figured it out day two.
How could prior owners not know she was greyhound ? The ears, body length, tail, smiles, sweetness,
temperament, speed, cuddles, the greyhound ears alone ! She is a wonder, I will never have any other
dog except in the greyhound family. Candy
Ohh I love greyhounds and have always felt heartbroken by their racing plight. I’ve known several ex-racers who were rescued and they’re incredible dogs. So soulful.
So heartbreaking. I live just a couple of miles away from a huge kennel club for racing greyhounds. The number of greyhounds in the rescues and shelters is SO high. I just don’t understand why people even find it fun, and can just think of them as disposable objects. So sad!
It breaks my heart too. Greyhounds are such a sweet, gentle breed — and huge snuggle bugs!
