Cats of the World

Ever wonder how pets in other cultures live? What is ‘the dog’s life’ in say Paris, France or Rome, Italy? Do they enjoy the same sort of things as their North American cousins or are those doggy tastes more refined?

This lovable print by Gemma Correll called “Cats of the World” brings this whole train of thought into a visual reality — from a feline perspective, of course. Each whimsically whiskered puss is accompanied by the word ‘meow’ in its respective language and some boast tiny accessories in honour of their cultural heritage.

Wouldn’t this print be just darling for the cat lovers’ wall? Be sure to check out Gemma’s website for all sorts of additional cat cuteness — oh, and some pug stuff too!

Street Paws

There is something about a dog’s paws. Don’t ask me what it is exactly, because I hardly know myself. All I can tell you is that they never fail to capture my attention. Whenever Rory is curled up snoozing I can’t help but snuggle up to her and sniff her warm woolly paws. Yes, yes, it sounds crazy, but don’t judge. Her paws smell like freshly popped popcorn minus the butter — I swear! It’s almost like that wonderful puppy smell that so many a pet owner knows, lives on in a dog’s paws for their entire life.

This morning I’d like to share a captivating little photo series called ‘Paws’ by Ottawa based Tina Picard Photography that celebrates the canine foot. The gorgeous series is devoted to the pitter-patter of paws that sound when out and about on the streets. What I love most about these photos is that they evoke an element of real newness from the pet world and beg the question, “Where are those furry paws headed?”

Happy Howl-o-ween!

From hotdogs, to lions, to firefighters and even a daring prisoner, we saw it all at Wickedly Westboro this past Saturday. Although most of the canines were gosh-done-darling instead of frightful, a fun time was had by all and the true spirit of the season captured on camera. To vote for one of the top costumes from the day be sure to head on over to The Guy With the Dog’s blog! Plus, we’ve lined up a special bonus gallery where you can see some fun outtakes from the day. Happy Halloween! What are your plans for this spooky day?

End of Week Smiles

As per usual here is the Friday round up of things happening in and around the pet world that brought a smile and lots of cheer this week.

1.  Remember Dolly? Well I am happy to report that my very first foster pup was placed in a loving happy home this week. That is her sweet little face above smiling at you all. Was it wonderful to see her go into the arms of a doting new owner? Absolutely. Was it hard to say goodbye? Most definitely. She is an extremely happy soul who radiates with joy and I do miss having her around the house, while simultaneously I am over the moon that she has found a forever home. It’s a weird feeling, okay.

2.  I am volunteering at Dogs in Costume Photo Contest this Saturday at Wickedly Westboro. For only $5 you get your pup’s photo taken by me and you are entered for a chance to win some fabulous prizes. First prize, a free pet photo session! Exciting, yes? Plus proceeds from this event will be donated to Hopeful Hearts Rescue to help dogs in need. Now, I know, I know —  dressing up a dog in a costume is not for everyone. However, even if that’s not your style you can still come visit and get a pretty picture of your pooch for less than what the average Starbucks beverage now costs. What’s not great about that? And it’s for a good cause.

3.  A blind Great Dane called Lily finds a friend who helps her make her way about the world. A heart-warming story that will bring a smile and possibly a tear.  Thank you to Pawsh reader, Gizelle, for bringing this story to our attention!

4.  A beautiful book for cat lovers, Meow! is a must have for anyone who appreciates furballs, purring and gorgeous photos. This title features work from Rachel Hale and Catherine Ledner — two of Pawsh’s faves!

5.  This incredible quilted dog bed. Please note it’s a DIY-er, so if you’re feeling crafty why not try make one of your own?

What made you smile this week? Would love to hear from you, because smiles should always be shared. Happy weekend everyone! xo
