Things I’ve Learned from Puppy

We would like you to meet Crystal from the lively blog Major Gal. Apart from writing about relationships, funky products and humourous personal anecdotes, Crystal also frequently writes about her adorable little girl, Gigi, and her many doggie adventures. Today Crystal has kindly stopped by PAWSH to share some of the things Gigi has taught her in her infinite wisdom.

My four-year-old fur baby melted my heart instantly. I had never known the joy that comes from having a creature depend on you completely. There can be no denying that Gigi has changed me for the better. However, this unconditional love is not the only thing I have realized thanks to this tiny bundle of fluff. Here’s what I’ve personally earned since becoming a fur mama:

1) Grandparents spoil their granddogs with rotten with treats. After we visit my Dad, Gigi never fails to need an intervention and treat detox.

2) Early mornings are bearable when you have a dog. There isn’t much that gets me out of bed happily before 10am, but Gigi’s energy, kisses and stumpy wagging tail get me up each day with a smile.

3) Another dog’s kibble is always better than your own stuff, so be sure to always investigate your friends’ food thoroughly or you might miss out.

4) Two rounds of obedience classes and private at-home training won’t change a dog’s personality. Gigi is exactly who she wants to be. She can shake a paw, sit, stay, lie down and dance for treats, but regardless of how good she is at “tricks,” she’s still got a personality. She barks, prefers to sleep on the couch instead of her bed and never lets me forget that she’s a feisty little girl.

5) The infamous Napoleon complex exists in small dogs. Gigi loves meeting dogs her size or smaller, but forget making friends with bigger canines. She’s not into that battle.

6) And finally, dogs watch TV. Some say this isn’t possible, but Gigi memorizes commercials and barks at all animals and babies on the screen. I watch her head tilt and see her stand on her hind legs looking right at the television while I howl with laughter. I also know to change the channel when certain commercials come on so she doesn’t go on a rampage.

What have you learned from pet parenthood?

I’m a paper person, lover of great design, and entertaining enthusiast. I am also an adoring pet owner to one hyper yet sweet three-year-old Boston Terrier. Considering all of these things, writing about great stationery and paper essentials for pet owners here on PAWSH is the perfect opportunity!

Our pets play such an important role in our lives, so why leave them out when it comes to social correspondence and celebrations? Show off your personal style while declaring your love for your furry friend by choosing signature stationery with a pup theme, or breed-specific look.

Look above at this preppy flat card by Noteworthy Collection that features a border of black labs, with a matching motif. Add flair to your envelopes with a fun personalized stamp, like this one (also from Noteworthy Collection!)

When it comes to the holidays, there’s nothing more festive than an adorable photo of your pet on a greeting card, right? Spread joy by sending the paw-fect holiday greeting to family and friends. This holiday design by Putnam House with a bone border and space for your sentiments will do just the trick!

Who says announcements and birthdays are just for babies and children? The adoption of a new puppy or kitty is certainly a reason for celebration! Share the news of your new addition with an announcement, or invite your pet’s friends to the park for a barking birthday party. Pet lovers will be excited to see an announcement (like this customizable style by Checkerboard) or invitation arrive in their mailbox!

What celebrations do you use pet stationery for? Be sure to pop on over to The Finer Things and take a peek around for some extra inspiration!
