This month’s motto is all about books! What better way to enjoy the hot sticky days of summer than by lounging on a blanket beneath the cool delicious shade of a tree, your dog by your side and your imagination sparked by a sensational read?
I am always trying to sneak away to curl up with a good book and relish those lazy cottage days when that’s all I can do. For some truly great titles be sure to check out this list of recommendations or our latest roundup of wonderful stories.
What book is your nose stuffed into at the moment — pet-related or otherwise? What is your favourite book of all time? What are you dying to read this summer? I’m always on the prowl for new authors and stories, so let’s chat about literature today!
Oh, how I would love a book oriented coffee klatch!
I recently finished Stanley Coren’s _Born to Bark: My Adventures with an Irrepressible and Unforgettable Dog_. It was a lovely, light read that is part autobiography, part dog behaviour studies, and all entertainment. Coren’s books are usually of the heavier reading type, but this one is a light summer afternoon read.
I’m currently reading two books, as is my wont: one fiction and one something else. The fiction (murder mystery) is Elizabeth George’s _Careless in Red_. I adore Elizabeth George’s writing as I do PD James; they are both excellent novelists who happen to write stories that involve murder. The something else is Karr and Wood’s _The Practice of Contemplative Photography_. For me, photography is a spiritual discipline so I’m always excited when I trip over good material about practising photography in that vein.
Jack is sharing both books with me, although I suspect he prefers Elizabeth George. I’m reading that novel on my Kobo so it takes up very little lap space meaning Jack can occupy it all!
