PET IN NEED: BB KING

This week’s Pet in Need from Hopeful Hearts Dog Rescue is named BB King. His sweet comical face is reminiscent of a racoon’s and he has quite the mischievous nature to match it. He is patiently waiting for a new home, so please keep reading to learn more and if you can, please share this link with your family and friends. Every share helps us find a new loving family for these deserving pets.

STORY:
BB King came to Hopeful Hearts via the Gatineau SPCA after he had been found wandering the streets.  When he first arrived he was in pretty bad shape; full of infection and  rotting teeth, and at times  almost catatonic. However with some nurturing and some medical attention he has recovered and become quite a little character!

FAVE SNACK: BB’s favourite treat is to lick out the yogurt container when close to empty.  He will get his little head right in there and leaves the container very clean when finished. Since healing from his surgery Hopeful Hearts has considered changing his name to Piglet.

FAVE GAME: BB is quite mischievous as he will suddenly take off at a trot and seems to want to be chased.  Not to worry though,  he usually only goes a few yards and then stops for a sniff.  His “fits and starts” way of exploring the world is very funny to watch.

BIGGEST FEAR: BB seems quite fearless – to this point nothing seems to scare or upset him.

FUNNIEST QUIRK: When he first came to us we believed him to be completely deaf, but seems to be picking up some noises now.  However, as soon as you make eye contact he can become very animated and bounces around like a crazy boy.

CATCH PHRASE: I’m a goofball and proud of it!

DID YOU KNOW…?

Dogs are curious creatures with some really interesting facts. For example, did you know…?

That a dog’s shoulder blades are not attached to the rest of their skeleton so as to allow for greater flexibility when running. No wonder I can NEVER win a race or game of chase against Rory! This explains a lot, such as how our crazy canines can make such sharp turns at a moment’s notice! Who knew?

RORY STORIES: KISSES ON THE MOUTH?

via

I have a confession…

I’m not a fan of dog kisses — on the mouth. I never have been. While I adore everything and anything dog, a slobbery show of affection across the lips has never been my idea of cute. In fact, I tend to discourage my dogs from kissing a person on the face entirely, unless it is invited.

I know this might sound a little ‘bah-humug’ of me or make me out to be a pet prude, but I simply can’t stand the sensation. Kisses on the arms, legs or sometimes the cheek is wonderful and sweet — just not the mouth. Another reason I discourage facial kisses is that not everybody likes dogs and some people are afraid, so to have your canine chum try to lay a big ol’ wet one on whoever comes to visit might not be the politest behaviour, however lovey it may be.

Thus, all of my dogs (Trilby, Rory and family canines) have been trained to only give kisses on the face when asked, “Can I have a kiss?” In my house, puppy manners matter so it only makes sense to have a kissing etiquette too.

But I’m curious where you stand on this idea. Do you let your dog kiss you on the lips? Are you a little more strict with the smooches? Of course, to each their own. Seeing a dog kiss his or her owner is a very heart-warming sight — unfortunately I just have this quirksome pet peeve. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

PET PHOTOGRAPHY: THE BEACH

The ever lovely Emma Taylor took to the beaches in Broome, W.A. a few weeks ago to frolic beneath beautiful crisp blue skies with a gorgeous eight-month-old pupster called Occi. They camped on the stunning sandy setting for two nights and dear Occi was able to roam the entire stretch of paradise. We hope this vibrant photo series inspires you to pack your own canine beach bag and make the most of the end of summer. Click through for even more gorgeous photographs!

Isn’t it amazing how freeing these photographs make you feel? What a wonderful sensation to spend quality time together with your pet while nobody else is around.

If you are a pet photographer and would like to have your work showcased on Pawsh, please send samples of your work to [email protected].
