TORONTO DOG PHOTOGRAPHER: SHADOW THE SHELTIE’S SOULMATE SESSION

As many of you know, I offer Soulmate Sessions – free photo sessions for pets in the Toronto area who have a terminal diagnosis. This sweet little Sheltie is called Shadow. He is 16-years-old and has been with his family since he was a wee shy pup; although he blossomed into a rambunctious young dog who was always eager to shower everyone with love and affection. Here is his sweet Soulmate Session. (Photography by yours truly via LLB Creative, my human photo company.)

About a year ago, Shadow was diagnosed with arthritis and liver disease and he has been on daily meds ever since. He suffers from complications of liver disease, which include neurological issues and difficulty breathing. And although life is hard now, this handsome little man has had lots of adventures! When he was more mobile, Shadow used to go on daily adventures with his human Dad, Rob. From chasing the waves at Cherry Beach to letting everyone at the park know that there was action happening at the fire station (he has a thing for firetrucks), Shadow brought a certain liveliness wherever he went. He was even The Training Room’s (the gym Rob used to go to) unofficial mascot for many years!I say this all the time – a dog’s only flaw is that they don’t live forever. It was an absolute pleasure spending the afternoon with Shadow and his humans and I feel very lucky to have met this little fellow.

DOG BEHAVIOUR: HOW TO DESCRIBE YOUR DOG’S PERSONALITY

toronto-pet-photographer-dog-magazine-personality-testI recently discovered a beautiful quote by American composer and teacher James Mumsford that perfectly describes the shih-tzu breed personality like a sweet little recipe.

“Nobody knows how the ancient eunuchs managed to mix together: a dash of lion, several teaspoons of rabbit, a couple of ounces of domestic cat, one part court jester, a dash of ballerina, a pinch of old man, a bit of beggar, a tablespoon of monkey, one part baby seal, a dash of teddy bear, and, for the rest, dogs of Tibetan and Chinese origin.” ~ James Mumsford (source)

This darling breakdown of traits perfectly describes Miss Rory, who is (believed) to be a shih-tzu and poodle muttlet. It got us wondering, what would your dog’s personality recipe read like? So, naturally, let us play a game and fill in the blanks! Leave your answer in the comments below!

My dog called _________, who is a ____________ breed is comprised of:

  • a dash of ____________
  • a couple of ounces of ___________
  • a pinch of ___________
  • a tablespoon of ___________
  • and a bit of  _____________

For example, Lucy’s recipe would read as follows:  “My dog called, Lucy, who is a spaniel and poodle mix breed is comprised of a dash of lamb, a couple of ounces of kangaroo, a pinch of toddler, a tablespoon of pushover and a bit of teddy bear.”

We would really, really, really love to hear your dog’s personality recipe so please share with us!
